Day Trip to Ifrane, Azrou & the Cedar Forest
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city with a refreshing day trip from Fes to the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you’ll discover the charming towns of Ifrane and Azrou, and explore the beautiful Cedar Forest, home to the famous Barbary macaques.
The journey begins with a scenic drive through the mountains as we make our first stop in Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland” for its clean streets, alpine-style architecture, and lush parks. You’ll enjoy a walk through this peaceful town, take photos near the iconic stone lion statue, and appreciate its unique atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Morocco.
Next, we head to Azrou, a traditional Berber town known for its local crafts, especially woodwork and handmade carpets. Here, you can stroll through the old medina and perhaps find some authentic souvenirs at the artisan markets.
After Azrou, the highlight of the trip awaits in the Cedar Forest (Forêt de Cèdres), one of the largest in Morocco. This magical woodland is not only a natural treasure but also home to the friendly and curious Barbary monkeys. You’ll have time to walk among the ancient trees, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and even interact with the monkeys in their natural habitat.
This full-day excursion is perfect for nature lovers, families, and those wanting to experience a different side of Morocco. We return to Fes in the late afternoon, bringing back unforgettable memories from the Middle Atlas Mountains.
